Anne Gilroy : Anne Gilroy lives with her family in a small house located in a large landscape in Hawthorne, Florida. She spends part of the year painting the landscapes of Florida 'en plein air', and part of year (the very hot or very cold and wet parts) working in the studio. She is a resident artist in the Tench Studios, located in downtown Gainesville at the corner of SW 2nd St and Main Street. Jerry Patterson : Born in Jacksonville, Jerry Patterson never strayed too far from his roots which are firmly planted in North Florida. He has been a photographer since winning a photo contest at summer camp while in junior high school. The convergence of computers and digital photography opened the door to the world of photography again. Jim Carpenter : (see captions for info on works). Jim Carpenter is an award-winning theatre educator and stage director. He spent many years as a dancer, choreographer, actor, director, theatre teacher, and public school arts administrator in Maryland. He also studied painting and drawing at Art League School in Alexandria, Virginia. In 2003 Carpenter moved to Gainesville, Florida, where he has devoted himself primarily to painting in watercolor. He has studied with local artist and teacher Linda Pence and has taken watercolor workshops with internationally known artists. He is a member and officer of the Gainesville Fine Arts Association ( http://gainesvillefinearts.com ), an associate member of the Florida Watercolor Society ( http://www.floridawatercolor.org/ ), and an associate member of Plein Air Florida ( http://pleinairflorida.org/ ). Carpenter paints both en plein air and in the studio. He paints whatever seems to cry out for greater understanding, including everything from Florida scenes and still-lifes to the exterior and interior landscapes of his own past and that of his family. "There's an element of 'not-knowing' involved in any subject I find myself drawn to... and when I'm finished I always have a better understanding not only of the subject but also of what brought me to it in the first place. It always astonishes me." Kate Barnes : Kate Barnes is the master of Cross Creek, and her fresh work has long had a wide following in North Central Florida. Her home is across the street from legendary writer Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings (author of "The Yearling" and "Cross Creek" among other award-winning books). Indeed, Kate's most popular painting and sketching subject is Rawlings' home and property. But Kate's other equally important subject comes from her long stays and visits to Japan.
